Then I read a report today that they're starting to delay shows, including Joyce and my favorite show, 24! Because they only have 8 episodes done, they want to wait until all of them are done, so they can ensure viewers that they'll get the entire season and play it with no repeats or interruptions. Now I'm glad for no two-hour nights of American Idol interfering with my Jack Bauer Power Hour...but if 24's really going to be gone until Sept 08, or Jan 09?!?!?! Now I'm seriously pissed of...

In other news (well, not really, it's still talking about 24). I just saw the Season 7 Trailer on Monday Night. At worship practice on Sunday, there's a cell phone ring (24 office ring), and Jason looks at me and says "Phone call, Jack Bauer". Now I actually havent' been using the 24 ring for a few months, but it was Harvey's phone, so I replied back, "It's not mine, it's Harvey's". So he said....wait, I can't ruin things for people who haven't watched the other seasons.... All I can say is...the Season 7 Trailer is crazy. FOX DON'T TOY WITH ME! YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEART!

If you watch it, you'll understand. If you have not watched through all of Seasons 1-6, dont visit this link.
www.24trailer.com

Why yes...I AM a total geek!

Heh. So, like a few other friends on Monday night, I trekked out to the offices of Microsoft in Mountain View, CA for what some would say, for the biggest video game event of 2007. We got invited out to a PreLaunch Party for Halo 3, developed by Bungie studios. A good friend, Mark Jen, got us some invites through one of this social networking ventures called Lunch 2.0 (a gathering where several companies in the Silicon Valley get together and host lunch parties with all the other companies, such as Meebo, Plaxo, Facebook, etc.).

Anyways, I arrived with Mike and Jerry, and was shortly joined with Brian and Jerry's wife, Adrienne, for some 5 hours of glorious killing on the xbox360. It was a nicely run event, and as I read on another blog today, ours was the biggest event with over 500 attendees. They had their food catered (actually, by a family friend of ours who works at that same Microsoft building, what fun) with samplings such as bratwurst, mini-burgers, and BEER. =P Fun stuff.

Halo 3 was of course the big game, but they also offered Guitar Hero II in a theater style room with dual screens (one lit up by a projector that you play infront of, and one lower on the floor in front of you, so you know what to play). The main room had 24 flat screens set up, all with the Elite Xbox360 systems attached. They ran a tournament, single elimination, 4 players each team. Teams played Team Slayer for the most part, until the last 4 teams. They switched the game play up to King of the Hill for the semi-finals, and the Finals was played as Capture the Flag, first to 2 caps. the "Kid" team won, and won themselves a copy of the Limited edition of Halo3, while the runners up won the regular edition. They also gave away 4 Elite units at the end of the night by running through the list randomly at the end, and you had to be present to win. Unfortunately, one of our friend's co-workers won, but went home early, as he had too much to drink. =P We figured with the 5 of us still there, we would have about a 1 in 20 chance of getting one (and I'm the only one without a xbox yet. =P). I would have love to be in Phoenix though! they had only 55 people in attendance, and gave away 5 xbox Elite systems! that's only a 1 in 11 chance... geeez.

All in all, it was a fun night. To you Microsoft people who ran the event, Kudos for the great event! Hope to join ya for more stuff. Everything ran pretty smoothly, and though I missed out on winning an elites, if you read this and would like to send one my way, or even at a discounted price, just let me know. =)

Some of Life's Mysteries

So I've been debating over things in my head these past couple of days. I like thinking in the car. When I don't listen to music, it gives me the chance to really just clear my head and think about the world around me and about some of life's biggest mysteries.

I recently was thinking about cars and rims. Larger rims are starting to make a lot more sense to me. So get this. From my understanding, you should technically get more mileage from having larger rims on your car. With a standard 15" rim, the diameter is probably a total of 24", meaning the radius would be 12" total (or one foot). That puts the circumference at about 37.7". So in one rotation of the wheel, it rolls 37.7".

Now take a 19" rim. Yes, you have to take into fact that the wheel base is smaller, but you still gain a little bit of space on the tire. Say now the diameter of the full tire is 28" (a gain of 2" on each side...sounds reasonable). The radius would now by 14", putting the circumferece at just about 44". That's a gain of about 6.5"

If a car travels at 60mph, it's technically traveling at 1 mile per minute. That's 63,360" per minute or 1,056" per second. So with a regular 15" rim, it equals to about 28 rotations per minute.

Now let's go back to the 19" rim. Theoretically it takes the same amount of time for the axel to spin the wheel in one rotation, just that the diameter is difference which results in a larger circumference. Let's look at the figures. At 60mph, it did 28 rotations perr minute. That times the 44" is about 1,232" per second, and 73,920" per minute. It does 6,160" per minute, which yields a 16% increase.

.... so what does that mean? Does this actually work? =P or does the weight gain from the rims balance out the length of the circumference gained? I still don't have all the answers.

One of life's other mysteries that came up recently has to do with Baskin Robins. They're a well known Ice Cream chain that has been around since the days of my youth. Well Joyce and I traveled out to one near our home since she saw a commercial advertising about a new Oreo Cookie Blast. When we went there we were shocked, dumbfounded, and astonished. It wasn't because it looked so great (but it did), but it was the fact that their small sized Oreo Cookie Blast was priced at $6.79!!! They're medium was $8.39, and the large was $10.99!!!

Who in their right mind pays that much for a shake? I'm hoping whoever had the bright idea to charge that much for things gets fired. The cost of a gallon of Dryer's ice cream at full price is cheaper than the small!!! I mean c'mon! So we ended up going across the street to Carls Jr. and buying their shake for $3.29.

Sorry for a lame, weird post, but in other news, I got married a month ago. I'll try to update about that and have something substantial in my next post.

We got company...

So, for those who don't know yet, Joyce and I bought a place earlier this year. It's a 2BR Condo in Milpitas in a complex called Crossroads. We never though we would be able to buy anything in the Bay Area, and when we started to look around sometime last year, we got really depressed with the insane housing prices that we saw (where Condos were in the range of $500K, and Townhouses in the $700K). To make a long story short, we got in on a great deal with Crossroads sometime late last year, and finalized all the stuff earlier this year. Joyce has been living there since March, and our friend Kim has been living there with her in our guest room/office to help out with some of the mortgage. It was a total blessing of my parents to help us out with a down payment on the place as well, as we wouldn't have been able to get the place with out their help.

Anyways, so as I was checking out my daily xanga reads, I came across a posting from my friend and former Sixstep Rep, Judy Huh, who had mentioned she just moved to the border of Milpitas and San Jose, and started listing off all the amenities of her new place. Everything sounded so familiar, so I contacted her and found out that she moved into the same place as us! How weird! She's living with a couple from her church, and hopes to invite people from Pathway (her church, the KFBC english ministry) over a lot.

It also looks like there's another church goer at Crossroads. One day while parking, I was next to a grey civic that had a copy of "Our Daily Bread" in it, as well as a bulletin from Korean First Presbyterian Church of San Jose. She also had a bridal magazine in the front seat. I thought I should leave a note on her windshield and have her and Joyce connect, since they're both brides to be, but I haven't done that yet. =P

Maybe there will be move neighbors nearby soon.... but it's still so funny that a friend moved in to the same complex! =P

Whoohoo, got thethering to work on my Verzion phone!

Well, I took some time today to figure out how to get my V3m to work with dial-up networking. Verizon seems to want to cripple their service in every way possible. Not only can you not use OBEX transfers to get items from your phone (which they took away), but they don't even allow you to use bluetooth for internet. I had to go the "oldschool" way of using the usb cable.

Now why would I do this? Well, it makes it great for those times when I need to check email, but am away from an internet connection. Yeah, it's really slow (dslreports got me at 106/kbs up and 26/kbs down), but it's actually a lot faster than a real modem. So I had to edit things on the phone so it wouldn't be using their EVDO connection, but really just the phone for a modem. That also allows me to just use my minutes to do internet...which means, it's free on the weekends! =P Kevin Hu, aren't you proud of me?

Oh, and an update on my contacts. They're getting easier. The first day of frustration took me about an hour for both contacts. The second day about 30 minutes total. It got down to about 10 minutes on the third day, and now I can get them in in about 3 minutes each eye. Not too bad I guess. I had to do something really ghetto yesterday too, which wrecked one of my contacts. =P I wanted to try and swim with them (with goggles) and after swimming, I didn't have my contact case, but wanted to take them out for the night. So I rinsed out my goggles, and put some fluid in there along with the contacts. The only problem is, some of the fluid dried up, and one of my contacts stuck to the goggles. When I pulled it off, there's a lil tiny chip off of my right contact. I've still been wearing it all day, and it feels fine...so hopefully it's not a major problem. =P
Thanks for all the tips people. =)

Today I ventured into something new...

Well, as the story goes, it was a really weird afternoon.

I scheduled for an eye doctor appointment this afternoon. Now, the last time I had an eye appointment was back in January of 2004, So it's easily been 3 and a half years. That's a long time. It resulted in me getting my frame-less glasses that I've been sporting for the last 3 and a half years. Today, I went the route of contacts. Why? Well I am getting married, and it would look best if I didnt have my glasses on the wedding day, and I do want to see my beautiful bride. That and I see a total need for contacts if I want to be able to see underwater. More details of that to come. =P

But anyways, today I had to get my eye appointment, and included in that was a dilation. I had never done that before... It was actually quite easy. They took two different small bottles, and dropped the stuff into my eyes. About 15 minutes later, my iris' were HUGE. I read on the computer that it's the same affect stoners get. =P Great, I'm going to a leadership summit for GrX in just a few minutes. Hopefully people wont get the wrong idea. But I digress. So, I'm now a person with some new contacts. I'm trying some soft lenses, that will last about 30 days. I don't know if these are the types that I can sleep in or not, but I think they said it's not recommended. =P Too bad. It's a PAIN for me to get them in my eyes. Getting them out isn't too bad (well, I only did it once so far, but it was a lot faster than putting them in).

Any tips for getting those contacts in my eyes? I feel like my eyes are too small....Is it because I'm asian and have chinky eyes?

Just some pics from yesterday (and 722 the day before)

Kristian Stanfield leading 722's worship

Jarrett Stevens and Steve Lo

Start of the conference with Charlie Hall leading and Louie introing.

Brad Horton, College Pastor at NPCC.

Louie Giglio, founder of Passion Conferences.

David Crowder at the keys for "Come and Listen"

Charlie Hall

Kendall Combs and Brian Bergman.

Charlie and the giants.

Brian Bergman

More later...

Here at Passion's Thirsty Conference

Well it's been the first day at Passion's Thirsty conference. What an overwhelming experience. Louie shared his heart with us today and just hearing from God and being open to his voice. Charlie and his band led the first session with worship. Francis Chan spoke the second main session and furthered Louie's message about hearing God's voice, and speaking about humility. David Crowder and band led the worship.

So now I'm currently sitting in a late night session/concert with Charlie Hall just up front. Here's some pics that are pretty much live. =P
