Kifer Sutherland in Jail

Maybe he should have waited a few years and tried out for Fox's "Prison Break" show...

Why? oh Why?!?!

So I thought this whole "TV Writers Strike" wouldn't affect me much. Then I read a report today that they're starting to delay shows, including Joyce and my favorite show, 24! Because they only have 8 episodes done, they want to wait until all of them are done, so they can ensure viewers that they'll get the entire season and play it with no repeats or interruptions. Now I'm glad for no two-hour nights of American Idol interfering with my Jack Bauer Power Hour...but if 24's really going to be gone until Sept 08, or Jan 09?!?!?! Now I'm seriously pissed of...

In other news (well, not really, it's still talking about 24). I just saw the Season 7 Trailer on Monday Night. At worship practice on Sunday, there's a cell phone ring (24 office ring), and Jason looks at me and says "Phone call, Jack Bauer". Now I actually havent' been using the 24 ring for a few months, but it was Harvey's phone, so I replied back, "It's not mine, it's Harvey's". So he said....wait, I can't ruin things for people who haven't watched the other seasons.... All I can say is...the Season 7 Trailer is crazy. FOX DON'T TOY WITH ME! YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEART!

If you watch it, you'll understand. If you have not watched through all of Seasons 1-6, dont visit this link.

Why yes...I AM a total geek!

Heh. So, like a few other friends on Monday night, I trekked out to the offices of Microsoft in Mountain View, CA for what some would say, for the biggest video game event of 2007. We got invited out to a PreLaunch Party for Halo 3, developed by Bungie studios. A good friend, Mark Jen, got us some invites through one of this social networking ventures called Lunch 2.0 (a gathering where several companies in the Silicon Valley get together and host lunch parties with all the other companies, such as Meebo, Plaxo, Facebook, etc.).

Anyways, I arrived with Mike and Jerry, and was shortly joined with Brian and Jerry's wife, Adrienne, for some 5 hours of glorious killing on the xbox360. It was a nicely run event, and as I read on another blog today, ours was the biggest event with over 500 attendees. They had their food catered (actually, by a family friend of ours who works at that same Microsoft building, what fun) with samplings such as bratwurst, mini-burgers, and BEER. =P Fun stuff.

Halo 3 was of course the big game, but they also offered Guitar Hero II in a theater style room with dual screens (one lit up by a projector that you play infront of, and one lower on the floor in front of you, so you know what to play). The main room had 24 flat screens set up, all with the Elite Xbox360 systems attached. They ran a tournament, single elimination, 4 players each team. Teams played Team Slayer for the most part, until the last 4 teams. They switched the game play up to King of the Hill for the semi-finals, and the Finals was played as Capture the Flag, first to 2 caps. the "Kid" team won, and won themselves a copy of the Limited edition of Halo3, while the runners up won the regular edition. They also gave away 4 Elite units at the end of the night by running through the list randomly at the end, and you had to be present to win. Unfortunately, one of our friend's co-workers won, but went home early, as he had too much to drink. =P We figured with the 5 of us still there, we would have about a 1 in 20 chance of getting one (and I'm the only one without a xbox yet. =P). I would have love to be in Phoenix though! they had only 55 people in attendance, and gave away 5 xbox Elite systems! that's only a 1 in 11 chance... geeez.

All in all, it was a fun night. To you Microsoft people who ran the event, Kudos for the great event! Hope to join ya for more stuff. Everything ran pretty smoothly, and though I missed out on winning an elites, if you read this and would like to send one my way, or even at a discounted price, just let me know. =)

Some of Life's Mysteries

So I've been debating over things in my head these past couple of days. I like thinking in the car. When I don't listen to music, it gives me the chance to really just clear my head and think about the world around me and about some of life's biggest mysteries.

I recently was thinking about cars and rims. Larger rims are starting to make a lot more sense to me. So get this. From my understanding, you should technically get more mileage from having larger rims on your car. With a standard 15" rim, the diameter is probably a total of 24", meaning the radius would be 12" total (or one foot). That puts the circumference at about 37.7". So in one rotation of the wheel, it rolls 37.7".

Now take a 19" rim. Yes, you have to take into fact that the wheel base is smaller, but you still gain a little bit of space on the tire. Say now the diameter of the full tire is 28" (a gain of 2" on each side...sounds reasonable). The radius would now by 14", putting the circumferece at just about 44". That's a gain of about 6.5"

If a car travels at 60mph, it's technically traveling at 1 mile per minute. That's 63,360" per minute or 1,056" per second. So with a regular 15" rim, it equals to about 28 rotations per minute.

Now let's go back to the 19" rim. Theoretically it takes the same amount of time for the axel to spin the wheel in one rotation, just that the diameter is difference which results in a larger circumference. Let's look at the figures. At 60mph, it did 28 rotations perr minute. That times the 44" is about 1,232" per second, and 73,920" per minute. It does 6,160" per minute, which yields a 16% increase.

.... so what does that mean? Does this actually work? =P or does the weight gain from the rims balance out the length of the circumference gained? I still don't have all the answers.

One of life's other mysteries that came up recently has to do with Baskin Robins. They're a well known Ice Cream chain that has been around since the days of my youth. Well Joyce and I traveled out to one near our home since she saw a commercial advertising about a new Oreo Cookie Blast. When we went there we were shocked, dumbfounded, and astonished. It wasn't because it looked so great (but it did), but it was the fact that their small sized Oreo Cookie Blast was priced at $6.79!!! They're medium was $8.39, and the large was $10.99!!!

Who in their right mind pays that much for a shake? I'm hoping whoever had the bright idea to charge that much for things gets fired. The cost of a gallon of Dryer's ice cream at full price is cheaper than the small!!! I mean c'mon! So we ended up going across the street to Carls Jr. and buying their shake for $3.29.

Sorry for a lame, weird post, but in other news, I got married a month ago. I'll try to update about that and have something substantial in my next post.
